(December 14, 2021) -- San Miguel County, CO –  County Manager Mike Bordogna has been named Rising Star for County Administrators by the Association of Colorado County Administrators (ACCA). The accolade was awarded to Bordogna at the Colorado Counties Inc. (CCI) winter conference that took place recently in El Paso County.

The ACCA award was created to honor public administrators whose service to their Boards of County Commissioners and communities, level of effort, innovation and quality of performance set the benchmark for all public administrators in Colorado. The San Miguel County Board of Commissioners nominated Bordogna based on his strong organizational and community leadership, vision, strategic planning, and fiscal management.

“We are thrilled that Mike received this well-deserved award,” said County Commissioner Kris Holstrom. “His leadership and vision have created a more cohesive county team that has translated to effective service for our community.”

Bordogna joined San Miguel County as County Manager in August of 2019, months before COVID-19 began, and has played a key role in managing the pandemic through leadership, effective communication and economic recovery.

“Particularly in the last two years during the pandemic, Mike has been a steady voice for the region,” said Holstrom. “He has excelled at gracefully conveying public health messaging and protocol in a calm, fact-based manner to our constituents.”

“I am honored to be the recipient of the ACCA Rising Star for County Administrators Award,” said Bordogna. “This accolade is symbolic of the incredible efforts by the entire San Miguel County team. We would not be successful without the dedication of our staff and support from our community, and I am proud to be a part of such a strong group.”

The Association of Colorado County Administrators’ mission is to promote positive change in county organizations and communities through communicating, networking, assisting others and promoting their profession, exemplifying a passion for public service.

In addition to ACCA and CCI, San Miguel County leadership plays an active role in other state associations.

County Attorney Amy Markwell has served as President of the Colorado County Attorneys Association (CCAA) since 2019, and has been an active member since 2008 (with minor gaps due to term limitations). CCAA functions as a resource for county attorneys through listservs and biannual conferences. Markwell previously served as CCAA secretary and treasurer, and was a human services board member.

County Road Superintendent Ryan Righetti is currently President of the Colorado Association of Road Supervisors and Engineers (CARSE), and previously served as the Southwest Director Representative and Vice President of the organization. CARSE serves public works, engineering and road maintenance agencies within the state, and offers a network of support and resources for counties. The organization is involved in legislation and policies related to highway maintenance and construction throughout Colorado.
