March 3, 2015 -- (Telluride, CO) – At just before noon today San Miguel County Dispatch received a call from a party reporting an injured skier in the ‘Suicide Chutes’ area in Bear Creek. San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue (SAR) team leaders contacted the reporting party and determined an exact location.
The group of skiers involved were skilled and prepared backcountry users and began a packaging and extrication process for their friend, and a rally point was agreed upon.
SAR personnel responded and made contact with the group on the Bear Creek Road. The patient was evaluated and prepared for snow machine transport back to the Bear Creek Trailhead. Patient care was transferred to Telluride Fire Department EMTs and the injured party was driven to the Telluride Medical Center for further evaluation.
