San Miguel County and our regional Fire Protection Districts are all members of the West Region Wildfire Council, whose mission statement is: "to mitigate loss due to wildfire in wildland urban interface communities while fostering interagency regional partnerships to help prepare counties, fire protection districts, communities and agencies to plan for and mitigate potential threats from wildfire."
"WRWC was established in 2007 as a collaborative effort to support interagency efforts to develop and implement plans to better mitigate the threat of catastrophic wildland fire to the communities and natural resources in the Colorado counties of Delta, Gunnison, Hinsdale, Montrose, Ouray and San Miguel."
Please visit their website for information on fire mitigation, education, and ways to become a community liaison.
