Norwood, CO, November 18, 2019
GMUG Fire and Fuels Crews are projected to begin prescribed pile burning in the vicinity of Telluride Ski Resort as early as Tuesday, November 19, or when conditions allow for safe operations.
- Two piles have been constructed with timber remnants from this summer’s ski trail maintenance and construction operations. All Merchantable timber has been separated and removed for other uses.
- The first pile is located near the Double Cabins trail above the Marmot trail intersection, the second is located on the Bushwacker trail near the Lift 9 loading terminal.
- Ignition will only occur when smoke dispersal, wind and snow conditions are appropriate.
- The project area will be patrolled and monitored for several days following ignition.
- Efforts have been made to minimize smoke impacts to the local communities and provide for firefighter and public safety.
- The objectives for this burn are the complete removal of the timber piles from Telluride Resort ski runs.
