Public Notice

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the San Miguel County Board of Commissioners will sit as the San Miguel County Board of Equalization (BOE) from July 22, 2021 through July 26, 2021.

Hearings will be held at the Miramonte Building, 2nd Floor - Room 201. The Miramonte Building is located at 333 West Colorado Avenue, Telluride, Colorado. The Board of Equalization will hear appeals from taxpayers who are dissatisfied with their property valuation as determined by the County Assessor and review the assessment roll of all taxable property located in San Miguel County, as prepared by the Assessor.

As authorized by C.R.S. 39-8-102(2)(i), the BOE intends to appoint one or more independent referees/hearing officers experienced in property valuation to conduct hearings regarding taxpayer appeals from the Assessor's determinations as to the valuation and/or classification of property for tax purposes. Such appointed independent referees/hearing officers shall make findings and submit recommendations to the BOE for its final action. Only such appointed independent referees/hearing officers, NOT the BOE, will conduct hearings at which taxpayers who are dissatisfied with the Assessor's determinations may present evidence and argument.

Only those taxpayers who properly filed objections with the San Miguel County Assessor and were dissatisfied with the Assessor's determination may petition for a hearing. The filing deadline for real property (land, buildings, mobile homes, etc.) is July 15, 2021.; for personal property (equipment, furnishings, etc.) the filing deadline is July 20, 2021.

Petitions must be addressed to the San Miguel County Board of Equalization, P. 0. Box 1170, Telluride, Colorado 81435.

If you disagree with the BOE's decision, you may appeal to the State Board of Assessment Appeals (BAA), request a binding arbitration hearing or file a legal action with the District Court. This appeal must be filed within 30 days of the BOE's decision.

For more information, contact the San Miguel County Attorney's Office at (970) 728-3879.
