Request for Proposals For Professional Architectural Services Rehabilitation of the Matterhorn Mill

San Miguel County plans to apply for a Colorado State Historical Preservation Fund Grant for stabilization and restoration of the historic Matterhorn Mill the summer of 2021. The actual grant deadline is August 1st with draft applications requested by July 1st. The goal is to commence actual construction during the spring/summer of 2022.

The County plans to hire an architect with historic preservation experience to conduct this assessment and write the scope of work for the construction activities, and to consult on the construction and rehabilitation activities ensuring compliance with the criteria of the Colorado State Historical Preservation Fund Grant guidelines. It is also requested the architect create a maintenance document that outlines proper maintenance techniques for preserving the Matterhorn Mill structure going forward.

Architects responding to this proposal must have experience using the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation and Historic Preservation. A site visit/pre-bid meeting to the Matterhorn Mill is mandatory to respond to this RFP. This site is located 9 miles south of Telluride, Colorado off of Priest Lane along Highway 145. In order to ensure compliance with ongoing efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19, pre-bid meetings for the Matterhorn Mill project will be held on-site at multiple time intervals to ensure the recommended group size of less than 10 people is met.
